Bike Skills at School
We needed to ride around in a circle and we needed to learn how to do the emergency braking. Then constable John sorted
us into two groups, there was a group that thought that they couldn't ride and another who could ride.
I was in the group that could ride. Some kids lost their balance, .like Adam, Victoria, Georgia, Dylan and Quentin. They got better during their practice. We got free time for five minutes then we packed up and the bell rang. Thank you Constable John.

Matariki Kites
After we tied it with cotton, we got some other flat raupo leaves and cut them to the right size so we could glue them across the frame, after that Judi hot glued them on.
Then it was my turn to make a kite. After I made the frame I got some material and cut it into a triangle shape so it would fit the frame. Then I got some shells, ribbon and some sequins to sow on it. After Judi glued the material, shells and ribbon on, I decided to sow the sequins on. I sowed them into a spiral, which is called a koru in Maori.
When everyone had finished their kites, we all showed them to the kids at assembly.
I am really proud of myself making that kite.

The Clifford
‘‘Land ahoy,Port Nelson’‘, shouted one of the crew. We have seen land came across the Tasman Bay. I was relieved that we were almost there, because we had been on board for four months.
It was terrible on the boat during the storms, the waves were crashing against the boat so you couldn’t get to sleep. You also had to share a cabin with the rest of your family even if there was five people in the family. We are in cabin class, so it’s not so full of people. We were in the cabins so it was more comfortable than in the steerage.
On the main deck there were always lots of people. the people from steerage brought their mattresses up and dried them when it was sunny. Little boys ran around and lots of chickens crowing all day. The first night on the Clifford every one was being sick. The people next to us just had a baby, they named it after the boat, Clifford. The baby started crying it didn’t stop crying until an hour had gone past. You couldn’t even hear yourself talking with a new born baby crying as loud as it can.
The next day it was exiting because it was the first day of school and I was ready to meet some new friend’s to play with. There is a lot of subjects to do at school. The teacher is real nice. Mostly when it is play time my friend’s and I always play with Clifford the baby.
When my family gets on shore we are going to build a house and I ‘m going to keep some chickens and my own dog.

Port Nelson, Haven Ahoy!
"Land ahoy, Port Nelson!" the cabin boy shouted. After four months at sea now we have arrived in Nelson. Wahoo! It was a pretty exciting trip because Mrs Whatsit just had a baby and she named it Clifford, after the ship. I was pretty sick in my cabin, I had to go to the spew bucket. When I was on the Main Deck, it was very stormy, so I went inside and had a snooze in my hammock. When I woke up we were in Nelson. I was so excited that we have arrived in our new home.
